The Price Of Our Redemption

1 Peter 1:18-19

Introduction

Redemption is one of the most powerful themes in the Bible. It speaks of deliverance, restoration, and freedom—but it was not free. The redemption of humanity came at a great cost: the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Sin created a debt that man could not pay, and only a perfect sacrifice could settle it. Understanding the price of our redemption helps us value the sacrifice, live responsibly, and walk in gratitude.

1. Redemption Required a Price

Key Scripture: Hebrews 9:22 – “Without the shedding of blood there is no remission.”

  • Sin carries a penalty—death (Romans 6:23).
  • Redemption is not by words or emotions but by a legal and spiritual transaction.
  • In the Old Testament, animals were sacrificed, but these were temporary coverings.

Lesson: Sin is costly, and redemption is not cheap.

2. The Price Was the Blood of Jesus

Key Scripture: 1 Peter 1:18–19

  • We were not redeemed with silver or gold.
  • The price was the precious blood of Christ—pure, spotless, and sinless.
  • His blood speaks mercy, forgiveness, and restoration.

Lesson: Your worth is revealed by what was paid for you.

3. Redemption Was a Substitution

Key Scripture: Isaiah 53:5

  • Jesus took our place—He bore our sins, sickness, and shame.
  • The innocent died for the guilty.
  • This is the greatest exchange in history.

Illustration: Like a prisoner set free because someone else took the punishment.

Lesson: He took what you deserved so you can receive what He deserves.

4. Redemption Was Painful and Sacrificial

Key Scripture: Matthew 27:26–31

  • Jesus endured betrayal, rejection, beating, and crucifixion.
  • The cross was not just physical pain but spiritual separation (Matthew 27:46).
  • Redemption demanded suffering.

Lesson: Never trivialize what cost Christ everything.

5. Redemption Brought Freedom

Key Scripture: Galatians 5:1

  • Freedom from sin
  • Freedom from condemnation
  • Freedom from the power of the enemy

Lesson: You are no longer a slave—you are redeemed.

6. Redemption Restored Our Relationship with God

Key Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:18–19

  • Sin separated man from God.
  • Redemption reconciled us back to Him.
  • We now have access to God as Father.

Lesson: Redemption is not just rescue—it is restoration.

7. Redemption Calls for a Response

Key Scripture: Romans 12:1

  • Live a holy life
  • Walk in obedience
  • Serve God wholeheartedly

Lesson: You don’t earn redemption, but you must honor it.

Conclusion

The price of our redemption was not ordinary—it was divine, painful, and eternal. Jesus Christ gave His life so we could gain ours. When we understand this price, we stop living casually and start living purposefully.

Redemption is not just something to celebrate—it is something to live by.
